How Can pain In The Throat And Chest Be Treated?

while i was at work today i was in the middle of a conversation with my co-worker when i herd what sounded like a pop to me in my right side of my throat. then afterwards i felt like everything was plugged. but i was able to breath fine see fine hear fine and talk fine. but to me everything felt weird and at that point my voice started to sound like im talking through my nose but my nose is not plugged nor is my throat. i can breath just fine normaly just in discomfort and i have tightness in my chest. the longer i talk at a time the more my voice comes out as if im talking through my nose. when i sit down everything seems to be fine i dont have the tightness in my chest as much my throat dont seem to hurt as much but as soon as i stand up or walk around the intense pain in my chest appears and i feel as if i have to burp but it hurts and its not a pain like strep throat type sore or any sickness sore. its a pain like somethings not right. and when i bend over to pick something up its even worst pains in my chest and throat. maybe i strained a muscle in my neck? could this all be caused by stress? could this be a panic attack?

Hello,

Yes, this throat pain could be because of upper respiratory infection (pharyngitis, laryngitis, epiglottitis).

It is mostly due to viral infection like EB virus, adenovirus but some time could be bacterial or parasitic also.

You may need routine blood investigations with sputum tests if you had cough and Chest X-ray to get diagnosed to rule out any lung pathology.

You may require higher antibiotics (quinolones or macrolides) to prevent superinfection (if it is a viral infection) with anti-inflammatory and other supportive treatment like bronchodilators if there is any breathing problem.

Your past chron's disease or ulcer won't flare up because of the use of these antibiotics.

So, it would be advisable to see ENT specialist and started treatment after that.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Ivan R. Rommstein, General Surgeon
